Founded in 1876, Woodlawn Cemetery is one of the largest cemeteries in Northwest Ohio recognized as a National Historic Site. Major memorials chronicle the history of Toledo’s development, as its rapid industrialization attracted  pioneers and entrepreneurs who recognized Northwest Ohio's opportunities and achieved great wealth, despite the challenges.

Woodlawn is a classic example of the type of rural cemetery that urban planners began to build in the mid-1800s. The beauty of nature and the work of accomplished artists and architects coalesced in its stunning park-like setting. Built at a time when there were no public parks, art museums, or botanical gardens in American cities, the rural cemetery established large pieces of ground, filled with beautiful sculptures and horticultural art and encouraged public engagement. Our tour shares that history, nature and creative craft work.
