Adelbert Lorenzo "A.L." Spitzer

(1852-1933)

Business Executive

A.L. and C.M. were cousins.  A.L. was first to arrive in Toledo. He engaged in a successful municipal bond business, C.M. joined him in the business and made Toledo a major municipal bond financial center.

Together the Spitzer cousins built consecutively Toledo's two tallest buildings at the time—the Spitzer Building (1896-1904), Toledo's first fire proof, steel-frame office building. Followed by the Nicholas Building (1906, named for their grandfather).

A.L. was a founder and director of The Toledo Club and was first president of The Toledo Country Club.
