Prominent lawyer,  Lucas County judge and mayor (1916-1917). In his legal career, he was a partner of Brand Whitlock.  He affiliated himself with the Progressive party and was elected county prosecutor in 1913.  He was elected Common Pleas Court judge in 1920.  He taught law classes at UT for 8 years
