A prominent Toledo realtor, Close developed Harvard Place, near Walbridge Park, while working for George Pomeroy, Jr. He later worked with John N. Willys to develop several West Toledo plats along Sylvania Avenue but perhaps his most recognized development is the Village of Ottawa Hills.  

Close Park in west Toledo is named in his honor.
