George B. Storer

(1866-1920)

Businessman and YMCA Trustee

An intelligent businessman, George Storer came to Toledo and became involved in the Chamber of Commerce, eventually running the entire organization. Under Storer’s leadership, the Chamber of Commerce became more efficient at providing services and branched out into education, charity, and civic development. Storer resigned from government work after four years and pursued his business interest, landing with Standard Steel Tube Company of Toledo, where he served as the company’s president until his death. During his involvement with community promotion, Storer promoted Wamba Week, a week-long carnival in 1909.

His son George Jr., founded Storer Broadcasting Co., and  named Camp Storer in honor of his father, a trustee of the YMCA.
