A prominent businessman who built the Valentine Building (1892) and Theatre (1895), naming them for his pioneer father, Valentine Ketcham.

He raised prize-winning trotters on his large Washington Township horse farm. He bred, raised, trained, and drove Cresceus and set a world's record (2:02 ¼)  for trotting a mile in 1901.
