The eldest of the three pioneer Secor brothers, he established a highly successful wholesale grocery firm, Secor, Berdan & Co., in partnership with John Berdan Jr. and later founded the First National Bank in Toledo.

His Second Empire Style home was a landmark at Summit and Bush streets. The family lived in the home from 1869-1903. It later served as a nurses home for Riverside Hospital.
