William Kraus

(1813-1883)

Toledo Mayor

Kraus arrived in the U.S. from his native Bavaria as a young man and gradually walked his way from New York City to Cincinnati where he married. They later made Toledo their home, where he became a banker and served on the police board and served one two-year term as mayor from 1869-1871.
